Airosia

--Climate--

During the thouands of years leading up to the distruction of their home planet Airosia was a beautiful and lush paradise. With almost one hundred and ten percent of their planet's food being grown on only nine percent of their land, Airosia had a very low poverty line. Made mostly of low lands and verdant streams old Airosia had a temperate climate, with few natural disasters.Sadly after the destruction of their home planet Airosians have moved out into the universe and made their homes on New Ariea space station. Their current primary export is tadillen, the rare metal, and several other minerals that can be mined from the now destoryed planet's surface.

--Physical Appearance--

Pure blooded Airosians have pale skin and bright blond hair, they also possess a naturally high metabolism causing them to maintain a certain weight, and only the most over indulgent Airosians are overweight. Airosians women also have what Zictins would call ‘renaissance’ proportions, they have large breasts and hips and usually have slightly chubby faces where as males are usually slighter in build and tend to have lean muscles as opposed to the heavily muscular Rakin species. Airosians do however come in varying shades, the northerners are usually more tan and those from the south are usually much lighter…but with the destruction their home that distinction is quickly fading away.

Mixed blooded Airosians come in a multitude of shades from deep brown to slightly off orange, Airosians are the only species that ‘mix’ with others resulting in an unprecedented range of colors. Typically the mixed blood child will take the non Airosian’s skin color, but will take the Airosian physical build and the child will often have a divergent hair color (Something like pink or pure white) though often the child will share very little with their Airosian parent other than genes…some Mixed bloods look so much like their non-Airosian parent that they are mistaken for their other parents race. Never, EVER call a Mixed Blood ‘Chidge’ it’s the equivalent of calling someone the N-bomb on Zictin…it just isn’t taken well. Generally ‘Half Blood’ is frowned upon as well but you’re less likely to get punched in the mouth for it.

The one thing that Airosians and Mixed blood Airosians all share, all the way through the fifth removal from the Airosian parentage is their eyes. Airosians ALL have blue eyes, but their eyes are slightly different that normal blue eyes…they change shade depending on the person’s mood. Airosians call them the ‘windows to their soul’, you can tell when an Airosian is lying depending on the shade, shifting from almost black (intense anger) to almost white (heart stopping fear) just by watching their eyes. With intense training an Airosian can learn to keep their eyes neutral…those that can do this are prized as negotiators and diplomats.

Airosians are also some of the more long lived races in the Universe, without advanced medical treatment it was not uncommon to hear of an Airosian living to be 100-120 years old…but with recent advances 150-190 is not uncommon. Due to this Airosians have a tendency to be detached, preferring to wait out conflicts with one another species…which is one of the reasons that they didn’t deal so well with the constant badgering from GASP and The Kayooshen. From the management: One of my favorite lines comes from Tom calling the Airosians ‘Space-Elves’…though mildly offensive to Adjana (and him it turns out) it was definitely an apt description.

--Early History and Early Culture--

During the early days of Airosia the planet was broken up under dozens of different groups, wars however rarely lasted more than a few days (most hours) before the members became distracted and decided to wander off and pursue their own interests. Airosians have a naturally short attention span when it comes to acts of violence, preferring to discriminate economically and through class distinctions. The Airosian culture had hundreds of different classes, being broken down to some of the most minute details.

Due to this fractioned societal view Airosians remained separated very nearly all the way up to their discover of space travel. Shortly before their outset to the stars Airosians finally became united under a single family that was thought to be descended from Eliea, the mortal daughter of Ariea. Though in the heady days before the destruction of the planet Airosia was a beacon of universal prosperity, possessing a wealth of natural minerals and deposits of fuels and very rich soil. Airosia possessed a population of nearly nine billion and the planet was nearly twice the size of Zictin, with minimal mountain ranges and giant valleys Airosia was easily one of the more powerful planets in the Universe.

Airosians excelled in poetry and art, with few famous mathematicians to speak of. Upon the dawn of their encounter with other civilizations Airosians built a ship that was barely able to enter jump speed…it was however one of the most beautifully constructed ships in the universe and is currently attached to New Ariea space station and is a widely visited museum detailing the creation of GASP, with a decidedly Airosian slant on the subject.

--The War--

During the early days of GASP Airosia refused to bring themselves to be more involved in the political arena, claiming that they would lose their individual ability to rule themselves. Airosia was one of the founders of the FreeFroms, but upon the break of The Kayooshen from GASP Airosia found this as a golden opportunity to garner even more power. Airosia entered into negotiations with GASP and The Brotherhood, gradually trying to gather more and more power from each organization finally culminating in the construction of the most advanced power plants, powering the entire planet with hardly any fusion energy, on Airosia by The Brotherhood. Sadly the royal family’s final act of hubris was to think that they could continue to play both sides, finally after Airosia’s newest denial of The Brotherhood’s advances to have the planet join them The Kayooshen detonated the power plants, spewing tons and tons of nuclear vapor into the atmosphere, tearing a hole in the ozone layer rendering the planet uninhabitable for the next thousand years.

--Current Events--

After the destruction of their home planet a great deal of Airosians moved out into the universe, making space for themselves where ever they could. Initially Zictin was ‘off limits’ to the immigrants but after several negotiations they were allowed to make their homes on the small underdeveloped world. Currently almost 70% of all Zictin's NIS inhabitants are Airosian or mixed blood Airosian. Shortly after the Royal family concluded their negotiations with GASP for an alliance they began construction on ‘New Ariea’ a massive space station which they hoped would come to house many of their wayward people. After the completion of the station in 1979 the Royal family invited all the displaced Airosians and their families to the new space station, thousands returned but those who found love on different worlds soon discovered that the problems that plagued Airosia before its fall had simply moved to this new station. Forced into the lowest sector of the station, mixed blood families have found that it was impossible to find a well paying job, regardless of their skill level.

Sadly problems seem to still plague the race, after the completion of their space station the royal family decided to celebrate with a massive festival, which lasted six days, on the seventh, find date, final day tragedy stuck. A small pinhole pressure leak occurred, which ballooned into a full blown hull breach which sucked over a thousand Airosians into space, killing almost all of them. The breach occurred in a primarily poor district of the station, occupied mostly by mix bloods and their families, this has lead to rampant speculation that it was government sanctioned, this of course is completely unfounded, but the rumblings are still there. Others have said that The Brotherhood was responsible, a final blow to the crippled race, though The Kayooshen has taken no credit. Officially the breach was caused by a hardware error, which shifted the station slightly faster in one section than the other, cracking the outer hull.
