The Brotherhood of The KayooshenOriginally created in 1630 the brotherhood of The Kayooshen was a religious organization created on Rakin shortly before the invention of wide spread deep space travel. The belief system is centered around a supposedly immortal son of the god Kayooshen who claims that it is his duty, and his duty alone, to unify all life in the universe to his ‘father’s’ creed. Originally benign the religion spread quickly on its home planet and found many followers and supporters who were convinced of their leader’s divinity. When the first Rakin explorers discovered the other races the religion found itself with a new group of potential converts, at this point Rakin’s government was a theocracy lead by the supposedly divine being and The Kayooshen thought that it was in his best interest to attempt democratic relations with the newly discovered races. After the founding of the Galactic Alliance The Kayooshen began to grow impatient with the thin trickle of newly converted and began to take more aggressive approaches, including a media blitz where he publicly proclaimed that all but those who followed him would die in a fiery blaze on judgment day. The other members of the fledgling democratic power were slightly frightened by this seemingly hostile move and they began to move to subvert the religious leader’s power. --The War-- After a slight falling out over the media campaign The Kayooshen withdrew Rakin support of the newly formed Galactic Alliance of Sentient Planets and urged others to do the same, initially there was some dissention in the ranks and six planets (mostly on the outer rim of the galaxy, near Rakin) broke treaties with GASP and separated themselves. Early in the days of the Brotherhood’s separation from GASP the planet of Airosia was sympathetic to the organization and were in talks with The Kayooshen to establish an alliance, creating an opposing super power to GASP...the talks broke down in the face of Airosia’s natural xenophobia and The Brotherhood quickly found themselves losing the support of their key Airosian allies. In a last ditch effort The Kayooshen offered a new form of cheap, renewable energy to his would be allies, two years later the work on six new power plants were finished and it seemed as though the alliance would be secured. But under continuing stress from GASP and small skirmishes breaking out around the boarder of their territory The Kayooshen became impatient. After demanding an answer from the Airosian royal family The Kayooshen was unpleasantly surprised when they refused, indignant at his forwardness they began to turn back to GASP. In a final desperate act to keep they Airosian technologies and fighters out of the hands of GASP The Kayooshen detonated the new power plants, spewing toxic waste across the landscape of Airosia and killing a significant part of the population and rendering the planet uninhabitable. This act of genocide is widely considered the event that truly started the war in 1970 and forever branded The Kayooshen as a sadistic monster. --The Military-- The Corps in The Kayooshen Corps comes from the extensive military regime that has become a feared power in the universe. Originally made up from the true believers of The Kayooshen, it has recently opened its ranks to any and all who have a reason to stand against GASP, be it for money or outstanding warrants. The military arm of the Brotherhood is significantly smaller than the GASP arm, but by using guerrilla tactics and a blatant disregard for their own safety they have managed to fight the massive power to a standstill, resulting in bunkered down fights on isolated planets and small skirmishes in the outer rims of the universe in recent years. The Kayooshen Corps are nearly as well armed as GASP forces due to the extensive smuggling network that they have carefully cultivated. |
